Introducing Wake Harvest
Triangle Women in Business is proud to count Jessica Rivera among our members. Her nickname is "Sunshine" and it shows.
Jessica is leading the way helping our local youth and the work she does is literally life changing. Jessica Rivera of JRV Consulting started Wake Harvest because she has a passion for making a difference in the community and is on a mission to prevent youth suicide. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 10 to 19 year olds. Wake Harvest is a community outreach organization designed to make a positive difference in our youth and community. They have several programs to serve our community youth.

Youth Summer Camp
After discovering several of her students would be spending their summer break at home alone, Jessica decided to create a summer camp as part of their #nochildhomealone campaign.
During the 6-week summer camp Wake Harvest offers fun and educational weekly themes. The most popular fan favorite is the Search & Science CSI kids week. Wake Harvest partners with local organizations, such as the Raleigh Fire and Police departments, to coordinate weekly field trips that coincide with each weekly theme. They pride themselves in teaching their students problem solving, emotional regulation and providing environments which allow students to strengthen their communication skills and relationship building.
Wake Harvest believes it is important to promote social interaction. Wake Harvest’s Breakfast Club meets in person one Saturday of each month for 90 minutes to have breakfast as a group so students can build relationships and practice communication skills. Those skills build character and confidence which contributes to a healthy self-esteem. You can register your child for Breakfast Club here.
Youth Development Program
Wake Harvest’s one-of-a-kind youth development programs are designed to instill positive self-esteem and healthy confidence in students. The program promotes emotional regulation, problem solving, social interaction, and other vital life skills. Youth Development packages include free unlimited access to the Wake Harvest Youth Mentorship Program.
Youth Mentorship Program
The Youth Mentorship Program introduces youth to local business owners and other professionals so they can learn about different careers and industries. This hands-on knowledge shows them that they can achieve their goals with hard work and studies, and also helps to spark interest in different areas of academics and fields.
Wake Harvest is Just Getting Started
When we asked Jessica about her future plans and what else she is brewing, she responded with a question of her own. “Did you know that almost all afterschool programs stop at age 12?”
One of Jessica’s future goals is to have an afterschool program for children up to 17 years old.
Jessica said, “13-17 years of age is such a pivotal time in the lives of our youth. This is the time they need the most guidance. Yes, they are "old enough" to be left home alone until their parents/ guardians get home, but the question is should they be left home alone? We say no. We will create a safe place where they can grow, learn and thrive. A place where they will never be alone. A place where we will nurture, encourage, challenge and love.”
